Introduction of scenic spots in Guosing Township
 1. Glutinous Rice Bridge:

Glutinous Rice Bridge, over the Beigang River, was built by Japanese in 1940 for the need of transporting lumber in the upstream Beigang River. The stones used in the construction were obtained from local resource, which is located in neighboring Puwei. Then these stones were carved into the required angles and inclined planes based on the shape of the bridge and then stacked up to build the bridge. In spite of many floods, including August 7th Flood in 1959, the flood in 1970, Doug Strom Damage in 1994, etc., which brought floods and rocks flushing down the river, submerged the bridge and damaged part of the bridge, the Glutinous Rice Bridge still stands firm, showing the robustness.

During the time of Glutinous Rice Bridge construction, it is said that cement was scarce and expensive. Therefore, legend has it that forerunners mixed glutinous rice with lime and sugar to stick stones together, which dubbed the bridge the name "Glutinous Rice Bridge". This bridge is 5 meters in width, 20 meters in height and 53 meters in length. The road of the bridge is supported by three elliptic pillars, so the bridge is a arch bridge with four openings. It looks magnificent and elegant, and is full of form beauty. Thus, there are many paintings and artistic works of this bridge in this place.

The Glutinous Rice Bridge over Beigang River was officially declared as a level three ancient monument in the Taiwan and Fukien area(called "county ancient monument" now) in 1994 by the Ministry of the Interior. It is the only ancient monument construction in Guosing Township, as well as the only ancient monument bridge in Taiwan, showing its preciousness. The figure of this bridge is in the emblem of this township, implicating its significance. It is not only a bridge but also a cultural landmark representing this township.

2. Nature Conservation Area of Houdongkeng :
The rivers were rushing in the early days in Houdongkeng. This place is with the features of natural rock wall, shellfish fossils, large shields on the ridge and extensive forest. However, because of inappropriate exploitation and the disasters, such as August 7th Flood, August 1st Flood, 921 Earthquake, and Taotzu Typhoon Flood, the ecosystem here has been devastated badly. Citizens understand the importance of environmental protection and therefore actively promote the plantation at the sites such as roadsides, collapse lands, hillsides, riversides, etc. In November of 2001, the association of natural resource conservation in Houdongkeng was founded to promote river remediation, plantation and landscape planning in succession. Under the full support of Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and Nantou County Government, many constructions have been finished, such as soil saving dams, parking lots, leisure pavilions, healthy hiking trails, demonstration sites of ecological engineering methods and riverbank trails. In addition, a rock climbing zone, a forest camping site, a plant educational garden and a bird-watching zone are also accomplished. Nature Conservation Area of Houdongkeng is place where many ecological conditions coexist. It is a classroom of natural resources and the best place for leisure, tourism and learning.
3. Monument of 921 Earthquake Epicenter
In 1999, 921 Earthquake hit the central part of Taiwan. The violent earthquake of a scale 7.3 caused an enormous damage to Nantou County, including Guosing Township. Shetzeken, beside Jioufenershan at Nangang Village, is the outburst site of earthquake energy. This makes Shetzeken a national scenic spot in memory of the earthquake.
4. Furong Waterfall

Guosing Township is a terrain of hills, most of which are not very high, so it is not easy to find a impressive waterfall and most of them are short or transient ones by downpours. Therefore, the Furong Waterfall, running all year long, is the scenic spot representing this township the most. There are many wild Cotton Rose Hibiscus(Furong) near Furong Waterfall. During autumn and winter, large pink flowers bloom in succession, beautifying the desolate and serene waterfall. Due to this distinguishing flower in this place, the valley waterfall is called "Furong".

The blossom season of Cotton Rose Hibiscus is around the days of autumn. The flower color is white in the morning blooming, pink in the afternoon, and then dark red in the evening withering . The color changes three times a day, so it is praised as a magician. It is commonly found in the wilderness of mountainous areas at medium and low altitudes. The best time to visit Furong Waterfall is the autumn days which is slightly cold because the blossom season of Cotton Rose Hibiscus is autumn. At this time, Cotton Rose Hibiscus blooms is in full bloom and the streams in valley abound in water and are turbulent, showing a picture of the lively forest and valley full of vitality.

Furong Waterfall is not located at the end of a river, but at the rock wall of a valley. It has two tiers and is a little thin, neither spectacular nor impressive. On a small hill beside the river lies the entrance of Furong Waterfall. When walking into the valley, you first see the descending stone stairs. On the sides of it, you can see some indigenous trees, not tall but with branches and leaves interlacing to make the space shady and cool. At the end of the stairs lies a observation platform built above the valley. On the opposite rock wall lies Furong Waterfall, running along to make the space cool and refreshing. Although there are many visitors coming, it is still quiet and secluded because this waterfall is far away.

Glutinous Rice Bridge bike path - It is a ring bike route of 15 kilometers along North Water Channel, connecting all scenic spots, private lodging and leisure farms. It is the best tourism place for teenagers and children.

6. Chenggong Zheng Sotne Statue
Chenggong Zheng, respectfully called Guosinga, sent the military officer Guo-Xuan Liu and troops to station at this place during late Ming and early Qing dynasty. Later this place was named "Guosing", which is still the name of this place now and citizen are proud of it. To fulfill the wish of citizens, we, all staff of township authority and citizens, held 5 times of build-up meetings and fund-raising events to accomplish the construction of the statue. It was designed and fabricated by a famous sculptor, Shinnian Chen, of Nantou County. The stature, assembled from 9 white granites, is 7.6 meters in height and 60 tons in weight. At the base of the statue, there are 8 copper embossments and 4 black stone steles with inscription. It is now the most imposing stone statue of a historical figure in Taiwan.
7. Natural Scene of Chessboard Stone in Dashih Canyon
It is located near Ecological Valley of Kuken. The steep but smooth rock riverbed stretches downstream, forming a special geological scene of broken ridge and canyon. After scrubbed by running water, the riverbed shows a pattern of cracks, like a chessboard. In addition, there are some U-shaped indentations on part of the riverbed, which amazes people.
8. Huguo Temple

Chenggong Zheng, a loyal courtier in late Ming dynasty, was not able to resist the invasion of Qing troops and then retreated to Taiwan. Zheng expelled the Netherlanders who occupied Taijiang Inner Sea. Under the rule of Chenggong Zheng, his troops have been sent to Guosing. Han people regarded Chenggong Zheng as a national hero, who rebelled Qing dynasty and rebuilt Ming dynasty. Therefore Zheng is also known as Koxinga, Zheng Koxin, etc.

At the early time of temple construction, this land is a place with beautiful scenery. In the morning, you could see a sea of clouds floating around the green mountains, like a paradise. In the evening, at the time of sunset, a flock of egrets rested in the forest of back mountains. It was a perfect natural environment. Because of the low-level technology and other inconvenience factors, the material used to build the temple was taken from the neighborhood. It was built by soil blocks, not bricks and the rooftop was covered by thin tiles to prevent leaking. By collaboration of citizens, it was finally completed in 1948 and a dedication ceremony was held to ask for favorable weather, prosperous society and peaceful lives. After 50 years of being battered by wind and rain, this building  became shabby. Therefore, in 1994, convened by the former chairperson of Huguo Temple, Chunchang Hsu, a rehabilitation committee spent just 3 years to rebuild this temple by the most advanced construction material. It was successfully accomplished in the autumn of 1997.

9.Guosing Suspension Bridge
This suspension bridge has been in existence 100 years ago. It was a temporary bridge then and made from bamboos. During the rule of Japanese, it was a requisite route to transport sugar canes. After two times of destruction by floods, a suspension bridge, made from steel ropes and designed by Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, was built at the original site. It is the first hollow suspension bridge in Asia.
